The 2015-P Reverse Silver Proof Roosevelt Dime (Buy on eBay) was issued within a special commemorative coin set issued by the United States Mint. The coin represents the first and only time that the Reverse Proof finish has been used for the Roosevelt Dime series.
In 2015, a commemorative coin program was authorized to mark the 75th anniversary of the establishment of the March of Dimes Foundation. As part of the program, the U.S. Mint issued the 2015 March of Dimes Special Silver Set, which contained the 2015 Proof March of Dimes Silver Dollar along with two specially minted Roosevelt Dimes struck in 90% silver, one of which was the 2015-P Silver Reverse Proof Roosevelt Dime.
The typical Proof finish features frosted raised design elements and inscriptions against a mirrored background. A Reverse Proof finish features the opposite orientation of finishes, with raised elements mirrored and background fields frosted. The finish had previously been used for other series, but never for the Roosevelt Dime.
The 2015 March of Dimes Special Silver Sets went on sale May 4, 2015, priced at $61.95 and limited to production of 75,000 units. Opening day sales reached more than 50,000 units and a full sell out would follow. The final adjusted sales figure of 74,430 represented the total distribution for the 2015-P Silver Reverse Proof Roosevelt Dime, creating a new key issue for the series.
