The 2015-W Silver Proof Roosevelt Dime (Buy on eBay) was one of two specially produced dimes issued during the year within a limited edition commemorative coin set. This represented the second occasion that a dime was struck at the West Point Mint and carried the “W” mint mark.
In 2015, commemorative silver dollars were authorized to be issued to celebrate the 75th anniversary of the establishment of the March of Dimes. After the release of the individual Proof and Uncirculated silver dollars, the United States Mint issued the 2015 March of Dimes Special Silver Set. This set contained the 2015 March of Dimes Silver Dollar along with two specially minted 90% silver Roosevelt Dimes. The first had a Reverse Proof finish and carried the “P” mint mark. The second carried the “W” mint mark with a regular Proof finish.
The West Point Mint had previously struck Uncirculated Roosevelt Dimes in 1996 carrying the “W” mint mark to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the series. These coins were distributed within the 1996 Mint Set resulting in total distribution of 1,457,000 pieces. The 2015-W Silver Proof Roosevelt Dimes had a significantly smaller distribution.
The 2015 March of Dimes Special Silver Set was offered at $61.95 and limited to an issuance of just 75,000 sets. Although the set reached a sell out, a full reconciliation of the orders showed total distribution of 74,430 units. Along with the Reverse Proof issue, the 2015-W Silver Proof Roosevelt Dime is viewed as one of the modern keys to the series.
